Brendan Lucey, MD

Associate Professor of Neurology

Dr. Lucey’s research focuses on the bi-directional relationship between sleep and Alzheimer’s disease.  To determine the potential for sleep interventions to prevent or delay Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Lucey’s lab tests the effect of different sleep interventions on the concentrations and kinetics of key proteins in the brain such as amyloid-beta, tau, phospho-tau, and alpha-synuclein.  Dr. Lucey’s lab is also investigating how sleep changes at different stages of Alzheimer’s disease in order to find out if sleep may serve as a marker for Alzheimer’s disease pathology and predict of cognitive decline.
